Future Upgrades PC Portfolio With New Title

Future Publishing has announced the creation of its latest computing title, Computer Upgrade, representing the nation’s first publication dedicated entirely to helping readers upgrade their current PC.

The title, launching in April, will be housed within Future’s Technology group, currently home to the company’s PC Format, PC Plus and T3 magazines. The publisher states that its new title will provide readers with practical advice on enhancing their current PC, rather than paying to replace it with an expensive new system.

Comprising a host of reviews and tutorials, the title aims to make upgrading as pain-free as possible, with simple walkthrough guides and no-nonsense practical advice. In addition, the title features a buyer’s guide providing at-a-glance information to make sure readers choose the right equipment and get the best possible value for their money.

The new title will be edited by Adam Evans, having previously edited Future’s PC Plus and Digital Camera Magazine. Evans will work with senior editor, Steve Jarrett, and senior art editor, Steve Gotobed on shaping the look and feel of the magazine.

Explaining the need for the new title, James Binns, publisher of Computer Upgrade said: “As our magazine and websites heard more and more from readers who unnecessarily junked their old systems, we knew the time was right to launch Computer Upgrade magazine. Our new title promises to strip away the mystery that surrounds upgrading your system. Rather than spending serious money on a new system, you could spend as little as £50 on a memory upgrade and be minutes away from a vast increase in performance.”

The new title will hit newsstands on 14 April, with a cover price of £3.49. The move continues Future’s recent spate of expansion. In December the company announced that it had acquired What Laptop magazine from Crimson Publishing, and that Beach Publishing, which publishes Junior, Junior Pregnancy & Baby and Wedding Day would also become part of its portfolio (see Future Expands Portolio With Beach Acquisition).

More recently the company acquired A&S Publishing for £5.95 million, adding the firm’s 11 motoring magazine titles to its portfolio and gaining the rights to eight national motoring events (see Future Fuels Motoring Portfolio With A&S Acquisition).

Last week NewsLine mistakenly attributed PC Projects magazine to Future Publishing, when it is, in fact, owned by Dennis Publishing. The NewsLine team would like to apologise for the error, which has now been rectified (see Dennis Drops PC Projects After Just Seven Months).
