Future Wins Global Microsoft Contract

Future Network is to publish the official magazine for Xbox, Microsoft’s video game console, after winning the exclusive national and international rights. Due to launch in the summer of 2001 in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, it has been described as the “most significant games magazine licence ever granted”.

The deal will last for three years initially with an automatic two-year extension, subject to reaching circulation targets, and covers all territories worldwide except Japan. Future will also produce an official website for the magazine.

The console will launch in autumn 2001 amidst a raft of next-generation consoles and competition within the gaming magazine industry is set to be intense. Last week the group announced the launch of Video Gamer in preparation for new products within the market (see Future Prepares For Games Explosion).

Chris Anderson, chairman of the Future Network, said: “The vision driving the international roll-out of the Future Network was precisely to allow us to offer global media solutions to key partners. So we are absolutely delighted that Microsoft have entrusted us with such broad-ranging magazine support for Xbox.”
