GfK Satellite Dish Figures

The GfK Monthly Satellite Monitor for March was commissioned by the ITVA, and found that dish sales increased by 52,000 between February and March 1993 producing a total of 2.150m dishes.

Additional information gathered in the survey includes details on subscription to BSkyB Pay Channels, deducing that:

  • Between June and December 1992, GfK estimate an increase of 290,000 subscribers to Pay Channels
  • By December 1992 they estimate 1.1m subscribers to Sky Sports which is 55% of satellite homes
  • Subscription to any Pay Channel grew from 76% to 82% of satellite homes between June and December 1992

*GfK dish ownership figures are derived from a six-monthly Ownership Survey based on a single sample survey of 10,000 homes. This is updated on the basis of installations which GfK monitors each month (making allowance for churn).
