Glamour Denies Price Rise Claims
![]()
Condé Nast has denied that it is planning to up the price of its successful new women’s monthly title Glamour, following renewed rumours that its price is to increase from the current £1.50 to £1.80.
Glamour made a spectacular entry to the market early this year, and achieved an ABC figure which beat market leader Cosmopolitan in UK sales and came a close second on total circulation (see Newsline). Its innovative size and a price that was around half that of the other glossies on the newsstand were thought to have contributed to its success. Since the launch, there have been rumours that other titles may adopt the “handbag size” format, while in September Natmags announced that its Company magazine would have its price slashed from £2.60 to £1.50.
Simon Kippen, Glamour’s publisher, today reiterated that Glamour would remain at a purse-friendly price: “The magazine launched at a very competitive price, and this is part of the long term business plan. Obviously there will be a time when factors such as inflation will necessitate a price increase, but it will never be up to the £2.70 or £2.80 of the others [in the market]. The decision as to when this will happen has not been taken yet.”
