GlaxoSmithKline To Sponsor Channel Five Weather

Channel Five has secured GlaxoSmithKline as the sponsor of its weather programme in a deal rumoured to be worth around £1.5 million.

The deal, which will run throughout 2003, follows the current three month sponsorship with Venos, which ran until the end of 2002. GlaxoSmithKlien will use the year long sponsorship to promote a range of brands from its portfolio to coincide with the changing seasons.

GlaxoSmithKline’s UK ad director, John Blakemore, commented: “Five Weather offers GSK an ideal environment for time sensitive and seasonal brands. For brands like Venos to have a regular dialogue with consumers throughout the winter cough and cold season is key. Taking a portfolio view of our brands allowed us to take advantage of the year long deal, offered by Five within a key appointment to view segment, whilst maintaining an obvious consumer link between the brands and the property.”

Earlier this week Granada secured Coca Cola as the sponsor of the second series of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which begins on ITV1 this weekend (see Granada Partners Coca Cola With Saturday Night Takeaway).
