GMG Bids For New Licences For Jazz FM

GMG Radio is to apply for the new FM licences in the West Midlands and Glasgow using the recently acquired Jazz FM format (see Jazz FM Agrees To £44.5m Takeover By GMG).

The new licences, due to be advertised early next year, will be among the last licences to be awarded by the radio Authority before Ofcom takes control.

Jeff Stephenson, GMG Radio’s development director, said: “We are already in contact with local businesses in both the West Midlands and Glasgow, and we know there is a keen demand from the advertisers for the audience which Jazz FM can provide.”

The West Midlands licence will serve a potential audience of 3.5 million adults, with a further million plus in Glasgow. These expansion plans are the first since GMG acquired Jazz FM earlier this month. Guardian Media Group: 020 7278 2332 www.gmgplc.co.uk
