Google Secures Amazon For Search Targeted Marketing

Online search engine Google has secured a multi-year agreement to provide search technology and sponsored links to Amazon.com.
The deal, which begins this month, will allow Amazon users to access Google‘s search and sponsored links service via the online retailer’s website.
Omid Kordestani, senior vice president of Google’s world-wide sales and field operations, commented: “Both Google and Amazon built their businesses by developing exceptional user experiences and providing relevant and comprehensive information. Google’s services will enable Amazon customers to conduct research across the web.”
Google also recently acquired online ad technology group, Applied Semantics, as part of a move to strengthen its search and advertising services, which include its fast growing content targeted advertising offering.
Commenting on the acquisition, Serey Brin, president of technology at Google, said: “This acquisition will enable Google to create new technologies that make online advertising more useful to users, publishers and advertisers alike.”
The acquisition further strengthens Google’s position against rival search targeted marketing group, Overture, by placing its contextual advertising partnership with Applied Semantics in jeopardy.
It is understood that Overture has seen its share price slump recently and media analysts have cited the uncertainty surrounding the company’s strategy and its position in relation to Google as contributing factors in the decline.
