After an eight month delay, Google is set to launch Chromecast into the UK this week, according to various reports.
First launched in the US last summer, the Wi-Fi dongle gives TVs access to web-based content, allowing users to stream music, videos and games from mobile and tablet devices direct to TV sets.
At the end of 2013, the number of televisions connected to the internet surpassed 300 million, according to Digital TV Research.
By 2018, it is thought that some 760 million TV sets will be connected to the internet across 40 countries – with Chromecast and other similar devices predicted to have a considerable impact.
According to Android Police, the device will be available in the UK from Wednesday and is expected to cost in the region of £30 – slightly higher than the US value of $35 (£21).
