Granada Completes Border Deal
Granada has completed its acquisition of Border Television from Capital Radio for £50.5m, reinforcing the media group’s position as ITV’s leading shareholder.
Granada, which agreed to buy Border from Capital last April (see Granada Agrees To Buy Border TV Assets), now owns six of the 14 ITV regional licences and has increased its share of the broadcasters advertising revenue to over half.
Granada already handles airtime sales and transmission for the regional group, which holds the ITV franchise for southern Scotland, Cumbria and the Isle of Man. The acquisition secures Granada’s control of all ITV regions between the midlands and Scotland.
Capital Radio bought Border (see Capital Radio Wins Battle For Border) in order to to win control of its Century Radio brand, which it will retain.
