Granada Produces First Movie
Granada and Rank Organisation have revealed details of their first film collaboration, called Up on the Roof. The production, thought to be costing around £3m, will be a comedy and is the result of the partnership between the two companies announced in June. A further five films are planned over the next two years.
Up on the Roof will be financed equally by Granada and Rank, while Granada owns the British television rights to the film.
The Granada project represents a growing trend towards British TV companies getting involved in film production, especially after the success of Channel 4 with Trainspotting. HTV in particular has a successful film arm which has an annual turnover of around £15.2m.
