Granada Productions has become the first British television production company to be commissioned by one of the four big US networks to make original drama specifically for the American market.
As part of the deal Granada Productions has signed to make two major new drama projects for ABC Television, including an American version of Cracker, for broadcast in 1997 and 1998. The second project is already in discussion and will be developed for submission next year.
Robbie Coltrane will not appear in the American Cracker since he is already working on an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Ebb Tide and will also be making two further TV movies for Granada next year: Butcher – a detective drama set in New York – and a spy thriller.
