Granada Strengthens Its E-Learning Business

The growth of the online educational market was acknowledged this week when Granada Media spent £19.7 million acquiring NFER-Nelson, a provider of multimedia testing and assessment products for schools. A spokesperson for Granada said that the acquisition would strengthen the group’s multimedia educational facilities and place it at the forefront of the e-testing market.

Granada has been in the e-learning business market for a number of years, and Granada Learning now provides educational products to 95% of British schools as well as to overseas markets. This week’s move into the e-testing arena places the company in pole position to become a leader in the provision of such services, the market for which is currently worth £4bn worldwide.

The provision of online educational products has been an area of interest for media groups in recent weeks; the Guardian Group last month launched a website providing interactive resources for teachers and pupils over the internet (see Guardian Launches Educational Website).
