Granada To Focus On TV
An article in today’s Independent reveals that Granada is to rebrand its television section and focus on developing broadcasting interests abroad.
Granada Broadcasting System is one possible name for the new television subsidiary. A new chief executive of the television business is expected to be named within a few weeks and Duncan Lewis, former chief executive of Mercury Communications, is tipped to be appointed. BSkyB appears to be a natural partner for any expansion overseas.
Charles Allen, chief executive-designate of the company, told The Independent that “television is clearly a priority for us now. It’s inherently a good business and highly cash-generative…On commercial television can deliver mass audiences, while cable and satellite can address narrow markets.”
