Great British Food Fight kicks off with 3.4 million viewers

Channel 4 Logo Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal kicked off the Great British Food Fight season on Channel 4 last night, with Big Chef Takes on Little Chef.

The first of three programmes, which follows Blumenthal’s mission to redesign to menu of the struggling roadside restaurant chain, pulled in more than 3.4 million peak viewers and an average 12.7% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, ITV1’s second episode of Unforgiven with Suranne Jones, attracted an impressive 5.8 million peak viewers and a 22.5% audience share, though it slipped down from Coronation Street’s previous 35.5% share.

Meanwhile, BBC One’s last Hunter picked up 4.7 million average viewers and a 19.2% audience share and BBC Two’s Million Dollar Traders pulled in 1.6 million average viewers.

ITV1’s Coronation Street saw the highest ratings of the evening, banking 10.4 million peak viewers and a 42.9% average audience share – well ahead of BBC One’s Eastenders, which peaked with 9.3 million.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s surprise Celebrity Big Brother eviction pulled in extra viewers – peaking with 3.7 million viewers at 10pm as Michelle became the third person to leave the house.
