GSkyB denied rumours that next week’s launch will not reach over 500,000 of its intended audience. According to speculation certain cable companies were refusing to broadcast the service because they wanted to reserve space for a BBC six-channel package.
A spokesperson from Granada confirmed that the launch will be going ahead as planned on October 1 with finalised agreements for ten of the thirteen major cable franchises.
The GSkyB basic channels are Granada Plus, Granada Talk TV, Granada Men & Motors, Granada Health & Beauty, Granada Food & Wine, Granada Home & Garden and Granada TV High Street.
…It is believed that NBC, one of America’s largest TV networks, will sue two cable providers for dropping the Superchannel from their distribution systems. Cable providers Bell Cablemedia and Videotron have decided not transmit the channel due to poor viewing figures.
Bell Cablemedia and NBC were unavailable for comment.
