The Guardian has announced that its Guardian and Observer tablet edition is now available to Android users, including those on KindleFire.
A two-week free trial of the app is initially available from Google Play and Amazon, and will thereafter be priced at £11.99 per month for seven day access, £9.99 for six day access, and £6.99 for Sunday access (Observer only).
The app, which launched on iPad in October 2011, currently has over 23,000 subscribers.
The news coincides with recent research from YouGov, commissioned by Newsworks, which predicts that four million people will buy or receive a tablet this Christmas.
“The launch of Android and Kindle Fire editions will expand the ever-increasing scale we have across our iPad edition, Flipboard and Google Currents,” said Lee Fels, head of mobile at the Guardian.
“We are finding advertisers are increasingly keen to reach our engaged audiences through our interstitial formats and ad innovation. Consequently, we’ve seen our tablet app revenue increase 230% year-on-year, as more brands realise the value of our progressive audiences and changing trends in the way people consume news.”
