Guardian Media Group Looks To Expansion In Radio

The Guardian Media Group (GMG), publisher of the Guardian and the Observer, has announced the appointment of John Myers as the new managing director of its radio division. Myers will be responsible for some expansion and further development within the radio sector, which will include applying for a number of new licences.

GMG has radio interests in Radio Investments Ltd and Golden Rose Communications.

John Myers, who was previously with Border Radio Holdings, takes up the position with immediate effect. He commented on his appointment: “There were a number of options open to me, but the Guardian Media Group impressed me most with their determination to be a real force in radio and their commitment to funding and developing the group. Together, I believe we can build a new radio brand and an impressive team.”

The Guardian Media Group was recently rumoured to be interested in a possible television venture with Jazz FM (see Newsline).
