Guardian Unlimited Embraces Multi-Platform Distribution

Guardian Unlimited has signed agreements to distribute its content on three new digital platforms. The Guardian’s network of websites will be available via mobile phone, digital interactive television and handheld computing devices.
A deal with BT CellNet’s WAP mobile phones gives users access to content from News Unlimited and the ability to follow the day’s news from anywhere on a WAP phone. A second agreement with AvantGo, available now from the AvantGo website, allows users to download information from a PC onto handheld computers, to read at their leisure.
A third deal with Cable & Wireless will allow viewers to watch a TV version of a number of the Guardian websites, to be available on digital television in March.
The three deals allow Guardian Unlimited to offer a multi-platform package to advertisers looking to target a tech-savvy audience
Head of the network, Simon Waldman, said: “As publishers of content the Guardian is now looking far beyond the newspaper and the personal computer as distribution channels. Guardian Unlimited’s investment into smart technology has allowed us to move swiftly into the mobile arena with the most ambitious and comprehensive strategy yet undertaken by a media owner.”
