GWR Buys East Anglian Radio

GWR Buys East Anglian Radio

Bristol-based radio group GWR this morning made an agreed offer of £24m for East Anglian Radio.

The main reason for the buy is that East Anglian, which operates 5 licences, provides a good geographical fit with GWR’s stations in the surrounding area. The East Anglian group, which has a weekly reach of 43% and market share of 31%, will allow the enlarged group to provide advertisers and sponsors with a potential target audience of some 10.9 million adults in the UK. This is an increase of more than 11% in GWR’s existing potential adult audience. GWR stations include Chiltern, Trent FM and KLFM.

GWR is also buying a 75% share of Radio New Zealand, which is to be funded by a rights issue of £36m.
