GWR Cuts Online Jobs

GWR has cut 46 jobs from its online division and in the future plans to concentrate on selling radio.

The job losses will mean that the company will no longer focus on the development of its local news, weather and entertainment site, Koko.com, but will concentrate on developing radio pages and localised directories.

GWR’s local radio stations will continue to offer a mix of integrated radio and internet advertising and sponsorship, but as part of a cost cutting drive, predicted to save the company £1.3m a year, 12 online sales staff will be made redundant.

GWR’s new media and digital director, Simon Ward, said: “The changes we are announcing today will allow us to concentrate on the most popular parts of Koko.com- those with radio-related content and local information. The on-air promotional support of our radio stations is a benefit that no other locally-focussed site can draw upon.”
