GWR Forms Regional Digital Radio Unit
Radio group, GWR, has set up a new division called Now Digital which will bid for a series of regional and local digital radio multiplexes throughout the UK.
Now Digital will initially target areas in which GWR already has a radio presence, starting with the licence for Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Telford, advertised by the Radio Authority last month (see RA Advertises Eighth Local Digital Radio Licence). The group is also intending to bid for licences in Bristol/Bath, Coventry and Norwich when they are advertised by the Authority over the coming 18 months.
GWR’s digital services managing director, Russell Stuart, says: “Out of the existing run of digital radio licences to be advertised by the Radio Authority, just four are in existing GWR territory. It is these we intend to target initially.”
GWR holds a 63% stake in Digital One, the consortium formed with NTL which holds the sole national commercial digital radio multiplex (see Radio Authority Awards Digital Radio Multiplex To Sole Applicant).
