GWR Group has announced the launch of a new Group Digital Division. The outfit, to be headed by GWR technical director Quentin Howard, will form a consortium to bid for the national Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) licence when it is advertised in the Spring.
GWR chief executive Ralph Bernard said: “GWR is now actively engaged in discussions with potential partners, with a view to forming a consortium to apply for the national DAB multiplex licence.”
The group is also stepping up its campaign with the Government in a bid to increase the spectrum availability so that all existing commercial stations will have access to DAB.
As well as clearer sound and increased capacity for new stations, digital radio will also enable graphics and text to be broadcast to digital radio sets.
