GWR Results
Bristol-based radio group GWR has revealed an increase in pre-tax profits from £930,000 to £2.06m, for the six-months to the end of March. Turnover for the group, which recently launched a hostile takeover bid for Chiltern Radio, rose from £7.8m to £14.8m.
Announcing the results Ralph Bernard, chief executive, said that of the group’s three broadcasting regions, Midlands, Southern and Mid Anglia, the Midlands faired best for national advertising, increasing its revenue by 24%. Bernard also said that GWR is interested in launching a financial station in London and plans to apply for once or more of the four new FM licences. The Radio Authority will advertise these licences over the next two years, one covering Greater London and three smaller licences covering the East, South East and South West.
