GWR Group, owner of Classic FM, has announced that it intends to acquire Cheltenham and Gloucester-based AM station, Classic Gold 774. The station is currently owned by Radio First.
As GWR already runs two other stations in the same area, Severn Sound FM and Wyvern FM, the Radio Authority (RA) will conduct a public interest test before allowing the takeover to go ahead.
The Authority’s public interest test will examine the takeover’s effect on plurality of ownership, range of programmes and diversity of sources of opinions expressed in the broadcast area.
