GWR To Buy Radio Wyvern

GWR To Buy Radio Wyvern

Radio group GWR has launched a £3.9m takeover bid for Wyvern FM, the Hereford-based station. The move coincides with the completion of GWR’s takeover of Classic FM.

Due to the fact that GWR’s 102.4 Severn Sound FM overlaps with Wyvern’s audience, a public interest test will be carried out on the takeover by the Radio Authority. This should be complete by March. GWR has said that the main benefit of the move would be a good geographic fit with its other operations in the area.

Radio Wyvern reported a weekly reach of 101,000 for Q2 1996, unchanged from the same period in the previous year.
