GWR is launching its rock radio station The Storm in London as part of the Digital Radio Group’s London multiplex licence (see Digital Radio Group Wins Third London Multiplex).
The station, which is available in the west of England and the west midlands on digital radio and nationally through Sky Digital, will be GWR’s first wholly owned station to operate in London and will be available to a potential 10 million listeners in the capital.
GWR’s digital content manager, Nick Piggott, said: “Extending The Storm’s coverage is a big step forward for digital radio, showing how diverse its content continues to be. The Storm will have a strong London focus with nearly half the output dedicated to the capital.”
GWR is part of the Digital Radio Group, which launched its DAB digital radio services for London last Friday. The DRG unveiled eleven new digital stations aimed at a potential 8.5 million “disenfranchised” listeners in the capital (see DRG Rolls Out Services In London).
GWR announced last week that in the 3 months to December 2001, revenues have fallen by 8.4% for the year, 10.8% in the UK, including a 19.4% decline in national revenues. GWR predicted that revenues for the UK market in January will be around 6% down, year on year and said: “The radio advertising market continues to be volatile.”
