GWR’s Now Digital Takes Wolverhampton Digital Licence

GWR’s Now Digital Takes Wolverhampton Digital Licence

The GWR Group’s Now Digital bid has been awarded the digital radio multiplex licence for the Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Telford area, the Radio Authority has announced. The licence covers an area with a population of around 1.1 million adults (15+).

Now Digital will broadcast a selection of nine programme services drawn from a number of radio companies including Beacon Broadcasting, Capital Radio and Sunrise Radio. The digital licence, which runs for a period of 12 years, also carries the two local BBC services, Radio WM and Radio Shropshire. GWR is hoping to launch the service in January 2001.

GWR has also formed Score Now, an alliance with Scottish Radio Holdings and Guardian Media Group, to bid for the second London digital radio licence (see Guardian Media Group Joins Bid For Digital Radio Licence).
