Hachette Bolsters Teen Portfolio With New Appointments

Hachette Filipacchi has bolstered its teen portfolio with appointment of new editors at Sugar and TV Hits!

The move, which comes just days before the release of ABC data for the six months ending December 2002, will see Claire Irvin take over as editor of teen monthly Sugar and Helen Lamont step in as editor of the celebrity-focussed TV Hits!.

Irvin has been freelancing as contributing editor at Sugar since last year and also recently oversaw the relaunch of In-Line Publishing’s Bliss For Brides. Lamont freelanced at TV Hits! during 2002 and also played a major role in its re-launch and recent merger with sister title CD:UK (see Hachette Filipacchi To Merge CD:UK And TVhits!).

Both Sugar and TV Hits! have seen circulation decline significantly over the last five years, as competition in the notoriously fickle teen market increases, with recent launches such as Natmags’ CosmoGIRL! and Hachette’s ELLEgirl.

Analysis shows that Sugar has seen circulation fall by almost 27% over the last five years, whilst TV Hits! has fared even worse, with circulation slipping by 47.7% since 1997 (see below).

Last month Hachette Filipacchi announced plans to promote the new Adidas ‘Colours’ collection across three of its highest-profile titles, in the first major group advertising deal since its creation last year. The deal includes women’s glossy B magazine and teen titles Sugar and ELLEgirl and has been designed specifically for each title (see Hachette Filipacchi Secures First Major Group Ad Deal).
