Hachette Filipacchi Takes ELLEgirl Bi-Monthly

Hachette Filipacchi’s glossy teen magazine ELLEgirl is to increase its frequency from quarterly to bi-monthly from next month in response to the increasing popularity of the title.

Hachette claims the move reflects its commitment to expanding its teen portfolio and is in keeping with the global launch strategy for the magazine, which is published in seven countries.

Commenting on the development, Kevin Hand, chairman of Hachette Filipacchi UK, said: “It has always been our intention from the moment we took sole control of the UK Elle brands last autumn, to fully develop the ELLEgirl title. This is the right time to begin that process. Under the stewardship and direction of Hachette Filipacchi UK it will continue to expand with the rest of our portfolio.”

Lysanne Currie, head of publishing at Hachette’s teen titles, added: “ELLEgirl offers something distinct and stylish for the independent and inquisitive teenager. Demand is growing and this move will help ensure our long-term position as market leader in this exclusive and sought-after sector.”

ELLEgirl was launched in the UK in August 2001 as a joint venture between Emap and Hachette. Hachette retained control of the title, as well as its older women’s magazine Red, after its joint publishing agreement with Emap came to an end (see Red’s Future Uncertain After Emap And Hachette Split).
