Hachette Parts Ways With Managing Director

Hachette Filipacchi and its UK managing director, Vivien Cotterill, have parted ways in a move which has surprised the industry and given former Emap chief executive, Kevin Hand, greater control over the magazine publisher.

A spokeswoman for Hachette today confirmed: “Kevin is taking much closer day to day control of Hachette Filipacchi. The managing director’s position has been made redundant.”

Cotterill moved over to the position of managing director in August 2002, from her previous role as managing director of Attic Futura, the magazine company Hachette acquired last summer (see Hachette Buys Attic Futura For £40 Million).

It is understood that the decision has been designed to coincide with Hachette’s move to new Mayfair headquarters next Monday, which has been heavily publicised in the trade press.

Hachette has announced a number of staff changes since ending its joint ventures with Emap, and taking-over control of older women’s title Red (see Emap Loses Fight For Red).

Last year Julie Harris, deputy managing director and group publishing director of the Elle and Top Santé titles, left Emap to join Hachette as general manager of the women’s magazine group (see Handbags At Dawn For Emap And Hachette) and the company restructured its UK sales house to cater for its expanded portfolio of titles (see Hachette Set To Build Advertising Powerhouse).

While Hachette has been busying itself organising its new portfolio, Emap has announced investment in core titles such as More and New Woman (see Emap To Take On Glamour With Re-Positioned More) and has launched a new celebrity title, Closer (see Emap Gets Closer To Women’s Market With New Launch).
