Hackers Force BSkyB To Suspend Movie Download Service

Sky Broadband Logo BSkyB has suspended its Sky by broadband movie download service after pirates hacked the Microsoft supplied facility using software from FreeUse4WM.

It is Microsoft’s Windows Media Data Rights Management software that has been compromised. Sky said: “We took this step as a precaution after Microsoft said it was working on an update to its Digital Rights Management software, which is used to protect content on Sky by broadband against unauthorised copying or distribution.”

Microsoft’s response has been to assure its Windows Media licensees that it has teams “working around the clock” to beat FreeUse4WM.

The news comes as some customers have been reporting problems with BSkyB’s newly launched broadband internet service, with complaints posted on the web ranging from delays in getting connected to others experiencing a slow service. Other customers have had their broadband boxes break after just a few days usage.
