Hamilton’s win pulls in more than 12.5m viewers

Lewis Hamilton ITV1’s live coverage of the Brazilian Grand Prix attracted a massive 12.5 million viewers yesterday afternoon.

An average of more than 8.7 million viewers tuned into see Lewis Hamilton overtake on the last corner to finish in fifth place, winning the world championship at just 23 years old.

The motor racing secured ITV1 a 41.9% average audience share between 4pm and 7.15pm, just over-running into Britannia High‘s slot.

Elsewhere, The X Factor dominated the weekend viewing figures once again, pulling in over 11.6 million viewers on Saturday evening, and an impressive peak of nine million viewers to its later results show.

The X Factor disco special, which saw Austin voted off, banked over 10.9 million average viewers and a 43% audience share between 7.30pm and 9.05pm.

Meanwhile, BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing attracted an average of 9.3 million viewers and a 39.9% audience share at the earlier time of 6.05pm to 7.30pm.

Sunday’s results show saw the figures dip slightly, with an average 8.4 million viewers and a 30% audience share for BBC One between 8.15pm and 9pm.
