Haymarket Closes Media Business
Haymarket Publications had closed its magazine for the media industry, Media Business, just two years after its launch.
The title is believed to be closing for commercial reasons and the final issue was published last Monday.
Media Business, which entered the market in 1999 as Campaign Media Business, recently relaunched in a new smaller size format and claimed to publish an average of 25% more media news stories than its closest competitor Media Week (see Media Business Revamps).
According to the latest set of ABC results, Media Business saw a 34% year on year increase in circulation with 13,922 media agency directors, managers and executives requesting the title. However, the magazine was some way behind Quantum’s Media Week, which reported a circulation of 20,551 in the latest quarterly ABC’s.
Fears that the media industry would have to endure an increasing amount of belt tightening were exacerbated by the events of 11 September and a number of recent reports by media companies have confirmed that the economic climate is becoming increasingly difficult.
