Haymarket Closes The Net
![]()
Haymarket Consumer Publishing is suspending publication of its monthly internet title, The Net, from November.
The market leading title was launched in 1999 amid the development of the internet sector and its closure, which comes just a few months after that of Future’s Business 2.0, is a further sign of the downturn in the internet magazine market (see Feature: Internet Magazine Market Reaches Saturation Point).
Managing director of Haymarket publishing, Kevin Costello, said: “Along with every other publisher, we have seen both advertising and circulation figures decline over the past twelve months; a decline which matches the well documented collapse of the internet and e-commerce industries. The internet magazine market place is now highly crowded and facing fierce competition from coverage in a wide variety of media.”
In the last set of ABC results (from July to December 2000) The Net saw its circulation decline by almost 12% to 52,600. Other titles also suffered with Paragon’s Internet Made Easy, Web Pages Made Easy and Practical Internet seeing circualtion drop significantly.
