HHCL Is ‘Best Profit Making’ Agency, According To Report

Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury has been identified as the best profit making company in the ad industry, according to a report by Plimsoll. With a pre-tax profit margin of 14.9% HHCL was closely followed by Maiden Outdoor with a 14.8% profit margin and S R Communications with a 13.8% margin.

The Plimsoll Portfolio Analysis also points out that there is a “remarkable” variation in company performance across the industry. While the average pre-tax profit margin for the advertising agencies industry was found to be 2.6%, 19% of companies were unable to make a profit.

Company size appears to be a key factor in the ability to make a profit – the largest companies, those with a turnover in excess of £10 million managed an average 2% pre-tax profit margin, whilst the smallest companies, those with sales of less than £0.9m, reported an average pre-tax profit margin of 1.8%. Around 45% of the loss makers fell into this latter category.
