Howell Elected As New IPA President

Rupert Howell, chairman and founding partner of HHCL & Partners and joint chief executive of Chime Communications, has been elected as the new president of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA). He takes over from Graham Hinton, chairman of Bates Dorland.

In his inaugural speech at the IPA’s annual general meeting, Howell said of the advertising industry: “We should be really proud of what we do, what we contribute to culture, the economy and society, and of the value we add to brands. I’m determined to do everything I can to help us be seen for what we are: an asset to our clients, and an asset to our country.”

In its annual review of 1998, the IPA says that the number of media agencies becoming corporate members of the Institute has increased from 23 to 34 over the last three years. Overall, the IPA has 210 corporate members.
