HTV Wales To Receive More Regional Programming
The ITC has approved changes to the licence requirements for HTV Wales by increasing the amount of regional, sport, current affairs and news programming.
The total broadcast requirement for regional programmes in Wales has increased by almost an hour, from 10 hours 45 minutes per week to 11 hours 43 minutes.
The requirement for news programmes increases to 5 hours 40 minutes from 5 hours 18 minutes per week; current affairs programming must broadcast an extra 10 minutes a week, taking it to a minimum of 51 minutes. Sports coverage is also increased, from 37 minutes to 1 hour 7 minutes per week.
HTV Wales, along with S4C, has also gained the rights to domestic club rugby in Wales until 2001. In 1999, Wales will host the Rugby World Cup and HTV Wales plans to produce programmes in the run-up to the competition as well as covering matches.
This is the first time that HTV Wales has requested licence variations.
