Independent Future Still Uncertain

Newspaper Publishing has held meetings with its Spanish and Italian shareholders, as well as with the Mirror Group. Mirror Group Newspapers gave assurances of editorial independence in an attempt to secure a stake in the two troubled Independent papers. Tony O’Reilly, of Irish newspapers, has submitted a proposal believed to be higher than the MGN offer.

The rival rescue plans will not be settled until a full board meeting later this month.
