Independent Latest To Up Price
The Independent’s price rise, up to 40p as from yesterday, puts it in line with the Daily Telegraph, also now at 40p. News International’s Times, however, is still at the cheaper price of 30p. The Guardian, unscathed by the price war, is still the most expensive, at 45p. The price war has increased the quality daily market by over 200,000 copies since the Times cut its price in September 1993, with the majority of extra copies seemingly going to the Times. The Independent has been the only real casualty of the war. The Times now has a 25% market share, compared to 16% pre-price war.
