The Independent is to launch a daily London section from Tuesday May 10. Called Independent London, the Monday to Friday supplement will be a 16-page tabloid, of which three pages will be advertising, with additional classified. Editorially, the first 5 pages will cover London news, then there will be comment and letters, followed by arts listings, as well as the classified section.
Andrew Neil, editor of the Sunday Times, is to go to work in New York for 7 months to launch a current affairs programme on Fox Television. His acting deputy while he is away will be John Witherow, current managing editor (news).
