Independent Section II Changes

The Independent has today revealed plans for its Section II, as well as scrapping the London section. (Newsline 29/9).

The second section will be “livelier, bolder and more controversial”, concentrating on issues, (not the day’s news) such as schooling, health, families and relationships. There will be new sections on music, education, fashion, photography, cinema, theatre, computing and finance.

Each day Section II will have a specialist section; Monday will be Network, covering information technology; Tuesday will cover media and marketing; Wednesday will cover finance, accountancy and law; Thursday will cover education. The new 32 page tabloid Metro will appear on Fridays. Covering a wider area than the current London section, all the commuter belt, Metro will be a guide to the week ahead in entertainment, arts, going out, eating out and staying in. As well as a full listings guide there will be articles and features on what is available.

Rates for the new Metro section will remain as the current London section.
