A board meeting of Newspaper Publishing owner of The Independent and Independent on Sunday, to be held today will consider options for the struggling group. Patrick Morrissey, chief executive, is to announce a rescue plan which would require help from city institutions.
However, both the Telegraph Group and United Newspapers have shown an interest in a rescue bid, giving rise to fears that the papers’ ideal of independence would be compromised.
