Industry Response To Broadcasting Ban

The ITC has welcomed the government’s decision to lift the broadcasting ban of representatives of Sinn Fein and other organisations, it said in a statement issued on Friday. The ITC said it has consistently argued for such a lifting, and that the lifting of it will allow “full and proper scrutiny of Northern Ireland affairs.”

The ITV response was also positive, with Andrew Quinn, Chief Executive of the ITV Network Centre, commenting; “The interests of the viewing and listening public will be much better served by the broadcasters questioning all the parties and being able to hear their replies in their own voices.” The government’s decision, which was announced on Friday, took immediate effect.
