Inflation Falls To Record Low Of 2%
The underlying rate of inflation fell to a record low of 2% last month, according to official figures. The key index, used by the Bank of England to set interest rates, which excludes mortgage payments, fell from 2.2% in February to 2.0% in March, slipping further from the Government’s target rate of 2.5%. This places the rate of inflation at its lowest level for 25 years.
The headline rate of inflation for March rose to 2.6%. compared to 2.3% in February, according to the figures released by the Office for National Statistics this morning.
The Retail Prices Index was 168.4.
