Inflation Remains Unchanged During January

The underlying rate of inflation in the UK remained unchanged in January at 2.7%, according to the latest figures from the Office Of National Statistics (0NS).
Clothing and footwear prices provided the main upward pressure on inflation in January, although the spiralling cost of petrol was also cited by the ONS.
The headline rate of inflation, which includes mortgage and interest payments, also remained unchanged at 2.9%. This means inflation has stayed above the Government’s 2.5% target for the third month in a row.
The retail price index for January was 177.1.
