Inflation Steady At 2.2%
The underlying inflation rate remained steady at 2.2% last month, according to official figures. The key index used by the Bank of England to set interest rates, which excludes mortgage interest payments, remained unchanged at 2.2% – still below the Government’s 2.5% target.
According to the figures released by the Office for National Statistics this morning, the headline rate of inflation rose to 1.8% in December, compared to 1.4% the previous month.
