InStyle Boosts Editorial Team With New Appointments

IPC has strengthened the editorial team at its glossy fashion monthly InStyle with the appointment of Tammy Butt as deputy editor and Tamasin Doe as fashion director.

The appointments are likely to be seen as an attempt by the title, which launched last February, to strengthen its position in the women’s monthly market after seeing a healthy 1.1% period on period increase in the latest set of ABC results (see ABC Jan-Jun 2002 – Women’s Monthly Titles).

Butt, a former editor of Emap’s More magazine, takes up the position later this month and will report to InStyle editor Louise Chunn. Commenting on the appointment Chunn said: “Tammy has had great experience at the coalface of celebrity journalism and is fanatical about glossy fashion magazines.”

Doe, who is currently editing the quarterly Harvey Nichols Magazine for Redwood, joins InStyle on 23 September. She has previously worked for the Evening Standard and The Guardian.

InStyle was previously published by Time Life Entertainment, but became part of IPC Southbank stable after AOL Time Warner took the company over last year (see AOL Buys IPC Media For £1.15bn). Figures from Nielsen Media Research show that the title saw a notable 43% year on year increase in the number of ads it hosted between January and June 2002, rising from 186 in the first six months of 2001 to 266 in the first half of this year (see ABC Follow-Up Report: Adverts In Women’s Monthly Magazines).
