Erik Huggers, Corporate Vice President at Intel Media, has confirmed that an Intel-produced internet TV service has been under development and will land some time this year.

The new service is yet to be named, but promises Intel customers the availability of live TV, video-on-demand, catch-up TV and apps.

The service will be accompanied by an Intel-powered set-top box. Users will have to pay for both the set-top TV and online accessibility.

At a conference yesterday, Huggers revealed that Intel have been working on the product for about a year, stating that “It’s a new division with new people – people from Apple, Netflix, and Google. And it’s devoted to developing an internet television platform.”

Intel further announced that a camera will be embedded into the set-top box, there to watch and analyse viewer habits. This could be a revolutionary step for internet TV across the globe.

Huggers remarked that they intend on giving the best TV experience for consumers, making it much more personal than other services.
