Interactive TV Gaining Positive Reception In US

Interactive television is finally starting to become viable, according to new research from the Myers Group and eMarketer. The research was carried out on the US market, which is seen as a barometer for what will happen in UK new media within the next few years.

A survey of media executives found an increased level of confidence in interactive television, with 61% of those interviewed agreeing that its prospects had “increased significantly” over the past year. The number of respondents agreeing to this statement has risen 10% since the same period last year.

Revenues for 1999 are expected to reach $665m, but predictions for the future put a figure of $7.3bn on 2003, rising to $32bn in 2006. eMarketer attributes the growing success of the medium to renewed consumer interest, iniatives by media giants AOL, Microsoft and AT&T and a greater range of products and services.
