Internet Access Now Available To Nearly Half Of UK

Internet access is now available to 45% of the UK adult population, giving a total of 21 million potential users. Of these, 14 million (30%) use the internet at home, work or college at least once a month. Research published by Continental Research in its Internet 2000 Quarter 2 Report has revealed that this level of usage is up 25% on January’s figures, while access has risen by 1 million in the same time.

The report showed that 60% of users are men and that the younger you are, the more likely you are to use the internet. 27% of those profiled as regular internet users in the survey were in the 15-24 age bracket. Data collected in the report also shows that age and gender affect the choice of activities when online (see graphs below).
